Undergraduate Competency Development
During the summer 2022 semester, I have been working on developing my undergraduate competencies for the Advanced Creative Learning Portfolios course at Sheridan College. At the start of the semester, we were asked to select the competencies and behaviors we wanted to work on. The skills I focused on honing were initiative and entrepreneurship. I also practiced having faith in my ideas, acting on them, and being focused over the long term. We were given the task of taking on a project that would help push us to accomplish precisely that in order to gain these undergraduate competencies. We started by developing a SMART goal that matched the learning we wished to achieve, and we worked on it all semester. The smart goal I created for this assignment was to create a business plan for a vintage clothing business, start an Instagram page for the brand and create a minimum of five active listings by the end of the term that we have been in this class. So why these competencies and why this SMART goal for the assignment? Well, I have discovered that as an INFJ MBTI type, I frequently overthink situations and evaluate myself too soon in the process of developing a new endeavor or skill. I believe this is the reason I frequently lose motivation when I start focusing too much on the potential downsides of what I'm doing and not enough on the advantages and my ultimate objective. By focusing on this during the duration of the project and a lot of personal introspection, I've discovered that in the future all I need to do to achieve the success I want is push myself harder and to fully implement my ideas before giving up on them. I hope to continue on this learning journey by keeping the eBay and Instagram stores I created for this assignment active and building upon them till they create a fully-fledged business. On the right side of this page are some screenshots of my eBay store and Instagram to show as evidence of my development. Below is the final video I created for this assignment which goes over the entire Under Graduate Competency development journey I had in further detail.
